Nathan had his two week appointment today with his pediatrician. He’s two weeks and 3 days old today. He weighed 8 pounds, 6.5 ounces and was still 20 inches long. His head circumference went up to 16 inches. He’s in the 25th percentile for his weight and length (not bad, but a little small) and in the 85th percentile for his head size. So now we have proof that he has his Daddy’s big head. 🙂 We go back in two weeks to make sure he’s still gaining weight. His circumcision is healing well, and the doctor doesn’t think we’ll have a big issue with his pinky. He thinks the joint will eventually work itself loose and not cause any problems.
We also have thrush. Which is NOT FUN. I itch like crazy, and get shooting pains, especially when he eats. It’s almost to the point where I’m going to need to exclusively pump and bottle feed him until it goes away. Hopefully it will start getting better before it gets to that point. We went to the Birth Center this afternoon and both got treated with Genetian Violet. Nathan’s mouth is now purple and will be for a few days. I also have cream I need to use after every feeding and pills I need to take. And I have to boil all my pump parts and his bottles every day. Hopefully this will pass quickly, though I’m not sure it will because thrush is REALLY hard to get rid of. We’ll see. Breastfeeding has definitely been harder than I ever imagined. We had latch issues the first week he was born and now we have thrush, which makes feeding him almost as painful as when we had latching problems. Hopefully this will be the last of our issues.
Here’s the purple mouth:
