As I’m writing this post, we’ve only JUST announced to the (facebook) world that we have begun the adoption process. Prior to this we had only told family and a few close friends. We have already gotten a lot of questions and anticipate a lot more, so I thought I’d answer the big ones in this post to catch you up.
Who? We will most likely be adopting a boy or girl between the ages of 2 and 6.
Where? Possibly Korea, but most likely Ghana or Ethiopia. Please join us in praying that God will make it clear where He has our child waiting.
When? While we have officially started the process, it will take anywhere between 18 months and 3 years to bring our child home. International adoptions, especially, take a good deal of time to complete and there are a lot of hoops we will have to jump through before “gotcha day”.
Why? If the video didn’t answer that for you, in a nutshell we’re adopting because we have heard from God and He has called us to adopt. There will be a post in the future explaining how all of this came about. Essentially, we want to show the love of God to a child – our child– by showing them the joy and security of love, safety, and family.
How can you help? There will be a number of ways you can help and we’ll be sure to keep you updated as we work out the details.
The first way you can help us is to pray for us. Pray for Craig and I as we make decisions, fill out paperwork, and prepare our hearts for this journey. Pray for our kids that they will adjust well when we are finally able to bring their newest sibling home. Pray for our families and friends as they help us through the process. And pray for our child, who is out there now, even as I type. Pray that he or she will be protected and feel God’s love and know that we are coming for them.
You can also help by supporting us financially. This adoption will cost anywhere between $20,000 and $30,000. We will be setting up a paypal account shortly where you can donate as you feel God leading you. You can also purchase coffee from our Just Love Coffee Shop. A percentage of everything bought through our store will go into our adoption fund. Their coffee is fair trade and some is organic. It’s good stuff!
We’ll also be hosting a variety of fundraising events over the next year. Things like yard sales, date nights, bakes sales, and auctions.
Also – from here on out the sales of my items at Crafting Mommies will go into our adoption fund.
And that’s it in a nutshell. Check back often for updates on not only our adoption process, but our two adorable kids! They are growing up so fast. Feel free to subscribe by email to our blog by clicking on the link to your right. It’ll email you when new posts are made.
