Our Adoption Story

On this page we will keep a timeline of the adoption process from start to finish, as well as links to specific articles relating to the event.

Feb 17,2012 – Through a series of circumstances, God places adoption on our hearts.

Feb 24, 2012 – We make the decision to adopt and start researching options.

Feb 26, 2012 – Apply for pre-approval to an agency that offers adoption in the three countries we’re considering: South Korea, Ethiopia, and Ghana.

Feb 28, 2012 – Pre-approved for Ethiopia, Ghana, and Russia.  Denied approval for Korea due to age restrictions.

Mar 12, 2012 – Apply for pre-approval to another agency.  Approved for adoption in Ethiopia and Bulgaria (and Ghana when it officially opens).

Mar 20, 2012 – Decide to go with Agency #2 in Ethiopia.  Begin the official application process.

April 1, 2012 – Send in formal application.  This included all of our financial information, medical summaries, photos of our family and house, and lots of other stuff that I’m sure we’ll send in again with our dossier.

April 5, 2012 – ACCEPTED into the Ethiopia program!

April 18, 2012 – After lots of research, we decided against adopting in Ethiopia and switched agencies for the final time.

  1. This is so fascinating. We adopted within our own country and the process was so different. Am I right to assume you’re in North America somewhere? May I ask if there is a reason you didn’t consider adopting in your own country?

  2. We are in North America – the US. We considered (and I guess still are to some extent) adopting from the US, but right now we have heard God calling us to adopt internationally. That may change along with everything else lately. We’ll see where He leads us from here. Thanks for reading!

  3. Okay, we’re in Johannesburg, South Africa. Things are a little different here 🙂 Great to hear you’re following God’s lead first. You’re welcome.
